 Tim
Monks
I am Managing Director at Third
Dimension (Bristol, UK), a company which develops and sells 3D measurement
products in selected industrial market niches and has specialist expertise in
non-contact laser measurement systems.
Work interests
My main interest at work is the design and development of novel dimensional
quality control products for industry - i.e. products for measuring,
dimensioning, gauging or tolerancing. More specifically, I work on machine vision and image
processing based devices, i.e. non-contact devices that measure based on
computer images, and require no contact with the object being measured.
Over the last few years I have headed design and development of several products. Each of these involves a wide mix of technologies: MS Windows
(including CE),
COM, C++, Embedded Visual C++ and VB programming, six sigma techniques, digital electronics, lasers and optics, embedded
processors, DSP, FPGA and PLD.
- The Gap Gun - a novel laser gauge for
measuring gap and flush for advanced manufacturing
- The VolScan laser freight
dimensioning system - the first and only completely non-intrusive freight
dimensioning system.
- The MTS wind-tunnel model
tracking system
- ...and many other projects at Third Dimension.
